PROJECT 59/485
Re-use, recycle and re-invent are all words that can be used to best describe this new residential project that incorporates an existing barn structure. The house is situated on a small holding on the outskirts of Port Elizabeth.
Our clients, Lydia and Colin had been wanting to renovate an old barn that existed on the farm for some time. Their project brief saw quite a lot of accommodation being added for visiting kids and grandchildren. This additional accommodation lead us to the planning intervention of incorporating the existing barn as one of the components of a bigger part within a courtyard arrangement.

LOCATION
Maitlands, Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape
Maitlands, located on the western edge of Port Elizabeth, is a coastal haven where rolling hills meet unspoilt dunes and sea views. The smallholdings here offer space, privacy and a quiet sense of escape, surrounded by indigenous vegetation and open skies. There’s a distinct charm in the way life unfolds here, it’s slower, simpler and closer to nature.
