KNYSNA WATERFRONT

This was a fantastic opportunity to investigate all the possibilities that this small Garden Route town could offer.

The scheme was a high level conceptual study of what could be achieved as a new waterfront for Knysna.

Along the water’s edge, the buildings become smaller and to a scale more appropriate for such a sensitive waters edge. This combines a mix of small to medium sized retail / commercial components designed to be interactive, modular and extroverted in nature.

At the heart of the proposal mass was concentrated more central to the design where bulk amenities are offered as well as a small residential component.

LOCATION

Knysna, Western Cape

Knysna’s commercial heart sits along the lagoonfront and main town centre, where a lively mix of shops, restaurants, markets and small businesses creates a vibrant hub for both locals and visitors. With its blend of boutique stores, craft outlets, eateries and essential services, the commercial node is a reflection of Knysna’s character; a creative, welcoming and grounded in its coastal setting. Framed by the lagoon and surrounding hills, it offers a walkable, engaging experience that ties together the town’s natural beauty and its thriving local economy.
