NMU E-Block

E-Block Extension is our response to a request for tenders published by the Nelson Mandela University.

The brief comprised of a new façade to an existing building, new laboratories, dive tank, research, storage, and additional office space, with the intention to link part of the existing campus buildings to each other.

Our aim was to create a building that formed this linking element between all the blocks that make up the Ocean Science Faculty. It was important to create both positive outdoor and indoor spaces for students and staff to break away to.

Articulating the internal space with double and triple volumes helped achieve this by elevating the user experience through visual connections across all levels and thereby linking the existing structure’s circulation and the courtyards that the new building now forms.
