Niche Medical Facility
3D Design Project

A design proposal for a bespoke plastic surgery on the edge of the Baakens Valley in Port Elizabeth. The facility needed to offer exclusivity and cater to the privacy of clients requiring cosmetic treatment.
The building offers two state of the art surgeries and consultancy rooms.
These are highlighted by the distinct asymmetrical forms to the upper level. The Ground floor level that houses the reception, surgeries and consultancy rooms is designed such that it looks directly over the planted roof of the Lower Ground Floor level.
It was essential that every space in the building had a direct line of sight over the valley beyond. The Lower Ground Floor consists of private day beds, more exclusive individual over-night recovery beds and nursing stations.
Again all rooms have been designed to take in the full extent of the view, privacy and Southern aspect. The two levels are linked by a private passenger/service lift or the more tranquil pedestrian route down into and across the central lower courtyard.
Recovering patients can make use of this private courtyard, on the same level as their rooms, or meander down to the lower edge of the valley via a stone walkway terminating in a viewing platform.
The overall aesthetic is distinct and makes use of skeletal styled laminated timber roof beams that makes reference to the body’s anatomy that delicately links the two levels visually.
