Bloomingdales

Client: Western Gruppe Properties | Date: October 2019 | Type: Commercial

The existing precinct is synonymised with quirkiness and intrigue, however, it is outdated. Many spaces are not practical and disjointed to the whole.

Functionality needed to be re-introduced for tenants, but at the same time keeping the center’s identity by adding to the intrigue and offering.

The complete existing structure to the Ground Floor is retained, with any intervention being clearly interpreted through colour and material detail.

An entire First Floor is added over the existing by means of a lightweight structure, but to a scale and consistency that does not dominate any space.

The First Floor aligns itself to the existing footprint below to create a sense of rhythm by projecting the original plan form into its elevation and re-invented façade.

Further to this, a vein of double volume runs through the building to help orientate oneself and connect activity across all floors between old and new.
